Car Cruise

Goal: Get photos of classic and custom cars and their details at local car cruises that make them look like there isn’t another car for miles around.

Challenge(s): This set had to be made over a longer period of time in multiple locations to get a larger number of subjects. Isolating cars in an environment that has them parked next to each other. Shooting wide angle images possibly distort body lines. Lots of reflections in chrome and paint. Make each vehicle look as though it’s the only one around.

Solution: When shooting multiple subjects very close together, use of a wide angle lens is a must. On sunny days, a polarizing filter is always on the lens to minimize reflections and enhance colors. To isolate the subjects I had to get close to the car and very low while choosing an upward shooting angle. Care was taken to not distort the vehicles unless it would lend to the graphic quality of the photograph.

Result: A collection of photographs that show a wide variety of classic and custom cars in ways that can be used for posters, calendars, prints, advertisements, cards, and more.
