A Product and a Person

Goal: Include a person in a product photo without making the person the subject of the image.

Challenge(s): It sounds simple, but when a person is in a photograph, it can naturally make us focus on them and not the preferred subject. The person in this shot needs to add to the message of the image without dominating the shot.

Solution: The two main things that worked for this set are depth of field and choice of composition. Depth of field helps isolate the subject from the surroundings allowing me to position the person in different locations making them a supporting part of the image without dominating the frame. Along with very deliberate posing choices, the model used a closed full-face helmet to keep the eyes covered and maintain focus on the hero of the shot. A dark outfit kept the rider anonymous while allowing the colorful subject to dominate the frame. Some additional isolated photos of the motorcycle were also taken as supporting images.

Result: The final set of files clearly bring attention to the motorcycle, include a person in relationship to the subject. These photographs can be used for a variety of materials including magazines, advertisements, social media, posters, and more.
