Black Powder
Goal: A blacksmith asked me to create some images that would show the detail of his handmade black powder pistol before it went to his client.
Challenge(s): Lighting to balance both wood tones and texture with shiny metal. capturing small details and keeping them in context of the overall subject.
Solution: This shoot was done in my studio where I cold properly control the light and compositions. Large diffusers and soft boxes were used to modify the lights, and a macro lens was used for the closeups of the details. Hanging the subject from a boom arm allowed me to get the floating effect for a shot o the the whole subject.
Result: Both left and right side images were captured to show all the details of the piece. Lighting and color was balanced in post production and a series of well-lit, clean photos were delivered. Both the maker and new owner were very happy with the results.
